Actona has got a good start with the BSCI process

Actona Company has committed itself to be a socially responsible company.

Therefore we are a member of BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative). As a member we are requested to respect the environment, human rights and labour rights in the supply countries.

The BSCI process is an ongoing process where we step-wise improve compliance with the BSCI code of conduct at the supplier.

We have got a good start with the BSCI process.
The suppliers who are involved are very pleased as it makes the relationship between Actona Company and the supplier even stronger. Furthermore it makes the procedure through the whole production more safe and effective.
We have had many suppliers who have contacted us as they want to be a part of the BSCI process.
We are very pleased with this involvement from the suppliers.

The first step in the BSCI implementation for all suppliers is to sign the code of conduct and ensure that all the workers in the factories are aware of it. Some of the key points in the code are:

• Prohibition of child labour
• Prohibition of forced labour
• Respect of environmental issues
• Health and safety on the work place.

Suppliers must ensure that the code of conduct is also observed by subcontractors involved in the production process.

The second step in the BSCI process is to make a self audit/evaluation. This audit is conducted by the supplier in colla-boration with Actona. The objective is to introduce the supplier to the practicalities of the BSCI Code and to prepare for the third party Audit. After the self audit an action plan is made in collaboration between Actona and the suppliers.

The third step is the initial Audit which is made upon request from the supplier or Actona. The audit is conducted by an independent auditing company. If deficiencies are found during audit, corrective actions must be agreed. The maximum time frame is 12 months for corrections and improvements of the deficiencies.
The auditing procedure is repeated every third year.

In Actona we take this very seriously. Therefore we have made an internal setup where persons from several divisions are involved.
Most important is that the Actona personnel is aware and keeps its eyes open when they visit the production sites. They can notify the CSR management if deficiencies are found and they can take action. We always lend the suppliers assistance in order to make this process as smooth and rewarding as possible.
