Processing

Choosing the most suitable marble blocks for furniture manufacturing requires a great deal of experience. How will the marble block react when it is cut into slabs? Do the slabs look right? Do they have holes? Are the colours and patterns right? Answering all these questions requires extensive professional knowledge.

For this reason Actona Company’s factory in Turkey quarries, transports and processes the marble blocks itself. But there is a long way from quarrying the marble in the mountains to delivering the finished marble tables to the homes of our customers around the world. Once the marble blocks have been cut into raw slabs, the process of making the tables can start. During this process the slabs have to be cut into smaller units, shaped, polished and sometimes they have to be combined with other marble pieces in matching colours.

Creating a marble table involves a mix of machine work and traditional manual work. Heavy machines cut the marble blocks, other machines polish them, but marble is a difficult material to work with, since it can be hard and porous at the same time.
The manual work and controlling the quality of the materials are therefore important in ensuring the optimal quality of the finished marble product.

Actona Company’s marble production is also environmentally safe. A lot of water is used during the processing of the marble. This water gathers marble dust. The discharged water is collected in a reservoir, and the marble dust precipitate and is screened-out. The water is then recycled in the production, and the collected marble dust can be reused in various other ways, for example in brick production.
