Real marble

How is real marble formed?

Real marble is one of nature’s own beautiful products, created through a process lasting thousands of years. Nature itself has created its myriad nuances of colours and patterns, and every marble slab tells a little of the Earth’s history. Not two pieces of marble are alike. It is exactly this uniqueness that makes real marble so sought after. Certain types of marble contain fossils of past – and now extinct – animal species. When you invest in a real marble table, you invest in a unique and personal product.

Usage

In the Roman Empire marble was used to decorate homes. It was considered very prestigious to decorate one’s house with marble. Marble is a natural component in modern furniture design. It is stylish and elegant and matches both modern and classical homes.

Marble quarry

Real marble of the type that Actona Company uses for its furniture can only be quarried in very few places in the world. It is very complex and expensive to extract the untreated natural marble from the cliff formations. Large marble blocks are cut up onsite and transported from the marble quarry to the factory for further processing.

Easy to maintain

Sunlight, heat, coldness - dry and damp air can affect natural materials. But maintaining marble is easy. The natural marble is varnished to make its surface resistant to fat, wine, dirt, and so on. It only needs to be cleaned with soapy water.

Durability

Real marble can stay beautiful for centuries. Marble does not decay. Since marble is a natural stone, it can be vulnerable to hard knocks and scratches on the varnished surface and edges. But daily use will in no way diminish the beauty of a real marble table. All real marble is varnished and therefore it must not come into contact with solvents such as acid, thinners and cellulose.
